“Working together to ensure deaf and disabled people are full members of the church”

14th December

Christmas is a time of familiar and traditional stories, carols, readings and services. For people with dementia this is a time that stirs particular memories and experiences and creates opportunities for people to participate when participation in other things has become difficult.

When you plan your Christmas services, remember how important the tradition and familiarity of the season is to many people. If you have residential homes in your parish, why not work with them to either bring some residents to some of your services or to arrange a special visit to the Church to see the crib and sing some carols. You could visit the home and listen to some of the residents memories of Christmas and reflect these in a service in some way. Remember that Christmas is not all about children and families but needs to include older people as well.
