You can reach another community with Makaton. Makaton is a language which supports communication alongside written or spoken language for those with communication or learning impairments.
Over 100,000 children and adults use Makaton symbols and signs, either as their main method of communication or as a way to support their speech.
In addition to children and adults with communication and learning difficulties and the communities around them – for example, teachers, health professionals, friends, churches, Makaton is increasingly used by the general public to aid communication.
Could you consider introducing some Makaton Christmas Carols to your December services? This is a really fun and easy way for your church to learn some basic Makaton signs and is wonderfully inclusive.
All the hard work has been done for you! Simply visit @BeckyMakatonTutor on Youtube and go to her Christmas Carol playlist and you will find over 20 popular Christmas Carols already translated into Makaton ready for you to learn and/or to simply play on the screen in your services! Emily Williams
